Actress Halle Berry is angry at Parade magazine for re-hashing what she claims is old news about her confessed 1996 suicide attempt. According to Berry, the magazine just wanted to spruce up its otherwise boring profile of her, and so "regurgitated" some things she had said years ago about her try at asphyxiating herself via carbon monoxide in the wake of her break-up with allegedly abusive baseball player David Justice. Said Berry:
The truth is I'm in such a great time in my life right now that it wouldn't be my wish to revisit that. But another outlet did that and made it seem as though it was current again. And it's just really not.
The magazine, however, stands by its reporting, saying the profile and everything in it were culled from an interview conducted with Berry on January 25 of this year. A statement from the magazine reads in part:
Ms. Berry talked very freely (on tape) about the challenges she has faced in her life, including her failed marriages and suicide attempt. It is unfortunate that Ms. Berry has chosen to respond to media interest by backing away from what she originally told Parade.
Oh, Parade people - you are so naive. You have her talking about the suicide attempt on tape? What the hell does that kind of concrete proof have to do with anything? Don't you know Halle Berry is a movie-star? If she says she hasn't talked about the suicide attempt in years, then she hasn't. If she claims she doesn't deliberately re-hash that story, subtly changing it each time, whenever she has a new movie out, then she doesn't. If she says the sky is pink and bees mate with mosquitoes to create hybrid super-bee/mosquitoes, then those things must be so. Never, ever question anything that comes out of a star's mouth - they never lie or equivocate or try to weasel their way around things. Their word is the gospel. And none of them would ever, ever exploit their own personal tragedies in the name of publicity. These people are fricking saints, don't you know?
